Learn to surf with Irish Surfing Champion John McCarthy’s at Lahinch Surf School.
Whether you are an absolute first timer or seasoned professional or just renting a board you can expect to have a wonderful and fun time anytime of the year with Lahinch Surf School. A surf lesson is two hours and includes both land and water instruction. Learn tips on surf safety and ocean awareness to help you master surfing the waves. All year surf equipment is provided.
Children (6 to 17 years of age) can join their famous summer surf camps (groms/youth/teens), surfing two hours each day, Monday to Friday. During the summer months of July and August they run surf schools from Lahinch Beach. Adults can choose from a weekend surfing course (three lessons), a package surf weekend or simply a single lesson. There are many courses and weekend packages available.
To find the surf school, aim for the Lifeguards tower on lahinch beach and walk a further 50m. On the opposite side of the promenade you will find our well sign-posted beach hut which clearly says, “Lahinch Surf School” (John mccarthy’s).
John has been surfing since the age of 10 and started competing on the Irish Surf Team at the age of 13. John has competed all over the world, at European and World Surfing Championships. In June 2006 John won a Bronze Medal in the European surfing championships. In October 2007 John was one of a group of surfers who pioneered the “Aileens Wave” under the Cliffs of Moher.
