Beauty and the Beast- Cork Panto
There is nothing like a good auld panto to kick off the festive season so after an evening shopping and dinner in Scoozi’s, we had to end a proper Cork family day out with Cork’s favourite panto. This year The Everyman outdid themselves creating a truly Cork panto paying homage to Barry’s tea, the beasts castle was on the way to Youghal and of course the Dame was named after the late Cork shop keeper, Peggy Twomey. Lonán got such a kick out of shouting “Peggy’s in the house” when she arrived on stage to “Who’s in the house?”
by The performance was filled with the usual Cork jokes and plenty of panto innuendos. Jam-packed with singing and dancing it kept us all enthralled and I don’t think I ever heard children to belly laugh out loud so much! Cork’s favourite landmarks and sayings made the line up with Scoozi’s, the four face liar, “like???” and the Echo ensuring it’s place in panto tradition.
In true panto style, it was Beauty and the Beast with a twist because of course Barbie had to take a leading role after her movie success this year so she joined the beast in his castle along with Sparky Looney, a theatrical candelabra and a talking clock called none other than “Shandon”. Barbie belted out some show stopping numbers and since the castle was stuck in 1988, due to the spell, Barbie’s rollerskates even made an appearance.
Belle had an amazing voice and she had everyone enthralled when she danced with The Beast in her iconic yellow dress. The Beast’s transformation at the end was mesmerising and a beautiful dance performance, even I was captivated by how it was done! The closing number, “a tale as old as time” was a poignant and eloquent end to a truly magical evening!
Pantomime is guaranteed to get you into the Christmas spirit and is certainly one of our favourite family traditions. We absolutely loved this year’s pantomime at The Everyman Palace and would definitely recommend it. Beauty and The Beast is running at The Everyman Palace until January 14th 2023, you can get tickets over on their website!
