Cinderella Panto Cork
Panto has been the highlight of our festivities for many years now as they is nothing more magical to fill you with Christmas joy. This year we were delighted to see Cinderella return to the stage at The Everyman Theatre as we were all looking forward to joining in with the clapping, singing, dancing and good auld audience participation. While the classic story of Cinderella is a tale of old, The Everyman has brought the story right into the 21st Century. It’s everything you’d expect to see in a Cinderella Panto with all the traditional parts such as ‘Oh No you’re not’ and ‘He’s behind you!’, a damsel in distress, a loyal friend, prince charming and two very ugly sisters. However, there was a really modern feel with Cinders striking out on her own and becoming a strong, independent entrepreneur and the two ugly sisters posing their way through the story with Instagram posts, reels and hashtags moments. Best of all, when Cinders and Prince Charming are finally reunited they head off on a coffee date rather than living happily ever after in marriage!
Alongside some impressive dance moves and dazzling costumes the Ugly sisters provided many laugh-out-loud moments. Kim and Kourtney, ( played by Fionula Linehan and Graham McDermott) the two ugly sisters and wannabe influencers make a fantastic comedy duo, who really know their audience with many ‘localisms’ for young and old alike.
The live Orchestra led by musical director Anth Kaley brought a real sense of theatre to the large array of musical numbers from frozen to Mary Poppins ensuring there was something for everyone!
All in all, the performance was fast-paced filled with brilliant banter and interactions with the audience. The Clock is counting down (OH YES IT IS!), so before the clock strikes midnight on 15th January make sure you see this show and sprinkle some magic into January.
